Job Summary

BDO Zimbabwe is seeking an innovative, detail-oriented programmer to join BDO Zimbabwe’s IT team. This role will be responsible for drafting and maintaining clear, concise code. As a programmer the incumbent will ensure that the Firm’s programs and scripts come to life in a functional, user-friendly, and efficient manner. The role will report to the IT Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with IT Manager to determine programming objectives;
  • Participates in the development of new software applications and new audit scripts;
  • Writes code that supports set objectives ensuring optimal functionality;
  • Edits and improves upon code in existing software programs and applications where necessary;
  • Designs new internal programs and applications that will enhance our business;
  • Ensures code is error-free, readable, efficient, and logically organized for ease of access;
  • Develops set systems and tasks for efficient coding processes;
  • Runs extensive tests and trial runs to confirm proper functionality and desired results;
  • Operates debugging software and seek out root cause of error in coding or sequences;
  • Performs detailed, manual checks of code;
  • Drafts, manages, and maintains coding databases;
  • Formulates efficient database retrieval systems;
  • Frequently runs upgrades on systems developed/ implemented;
  • Collaborates in cross-functional projects;
  • Stays abreast of industry breakthroughs and any new relevant programming technology;
  • Facilitates learning & development of various team members through training, coaching and mentoring.

Person Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer programming, computer science or related field;
  • Minimum of two years’ programming experience;
  • Extensive knowledge in various programming languages (Java, Perl, Python, PHP, C++ etc.);
  • Proven mastery of use in our preferred coding language;
  • Professional who is accountable for work performed;
  • Effective and timeous communication and project management competencies;
  • Strong, independent work ethic;
  • Efficient and accurate coder;
  • Adept problem solver;
  • Excellent database management skills;
  • Results driven.
